The American Bulldog is related to the Old English Bulldog, it is however larger, it is known for being a guardian dog. There two further divisions of this dog breed, into the Scott sub type (aka Standard or performance type and the Johnson (aka Classic or bully type) sub type. Although there is this division most American bulldogs tend to be a mixture of both these. On average this breed weights between 27 and 57 kilos and are 52 to 70 cm high to the withers. Although this dog is known primary for its role as a guardian dog it can also track work hard.

Appearance

This dog is well built and is strong. It has a very powerful jaw which is not to be messed with. Its coat is mostly smooth and short. Colours vary but mostly white has been strong, however any pattern has also been popular, with combinations of fawn, brindle brow or even black.

Temperament

As a general rule this breed is friendly and happy, it can integrate fairly well with the family. The bulldog bonds with the owner and family well. It can tolerate children as long as the breed is suitably socialized from puppy. The more training the better.As expected of a guard dog they are fairly intolerant of unfamiliar people or creature which go near their habitat. This dog is known for charge rushing other dogs .

Grooming and care

The bulldog's coat is short and smooth. In comparison to other breeds this dog sheds less.
